"Conscience of the Congress," edited by Stephanie Jones, now available!

Conscience of the Congress: How the Congressional Black Caucus Changed America, edited by Stephanie Jones, is now available.

Conscience of the Congress, which grew out of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the CBC, puts into perspective the unique and important role the CBC has played in American politics and American history. It offers a variety of snapshots from different perspectives, depicting how the CBC has been both a vehicle and a forum for advancing economic and voting rights, social justice, quality health care, employment and educational opportunities, environmental protections, and integrity in international affairs.

In addition to serving as Editor of this historic book, Stephanie Jones wrote the Preface and a key chapter, “Bridging the Economic Gap: The CBC and the Community Reinvestment Act.” Former Congressman Louis Stokes wrote the Foreword. Among the other featured authors are Dr. William Spriggs, Dr. Marjorie Innocent, Gracia Hillman, Dr. Tyson King-Meadows, Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, Dr. Ivory Toldson, and Dr. Mae King.
