As a law professor at Chase College of Law, Northern Kentucky University in the 1990s, Stephanie Jones developed a reputation as an expert on entertainment law, copyright law and intellectual property. Her 1992 analysis of the substantial similarity test and recommendations for its improvement in music copyright lawsuits was published in the Duquesne Law Review and has since been cited by numerous courts and scholars across the country.

In recent days, singer Robin Thicke’s pre-emptive action for copyright protection of his hit song “Blurred Lines” has propelled this issue into the forefront of popular culture.
